Alfajores aren’t just cookies to me; they’re family, heritage, and hours of patient care. This recipe began in Peru. It was passed from my dad’s sister down to my mom, who made it her own. Over the last decade, I’ve refined it with love and precision until every bite feels just right. Each batch starts with butter cookies delicately infused with freshly ground anise. The seeds are carefully sifted away, leaving behind only their aromatic essence. Once cooled, they’re joined with a thick layer of dark, rich manjar blanco (dulce de leche made in-house) and finished with a dusting of powdered sugar. The result: A soft, sweet, and timeless cookie with deep roots, many memories, and a heart that reflects my own.
